Workshop on Self Awareness       11/02/2012
Ram Ratna always believes in enhancing its teachers through various training programmes and workshops and seminars conducted by renowned personalities. On 11th February 2012, the school organized a workshop on Self Awareness for its teachers, both from Ram Ratna Vidya Mandir and Ram Ratna International School. The speaker was none other than the most renowned Psychiatrist Dr. Harish Shetty who is a practicing Psychiatrist with a post graduate degree in Psychological Medicine and a post graduate diploma in Comparative mythology from Bombay University. Dr Shetty has immense experience in the field of Disaster and Mental health. Dr Harish Shetty is a Visiting Faculty member at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Dr Shetty has also been identified as one of the 17 young mental health workers by the World Health Organization. He has also founded “Maître" an organization that works with families affected by mental illness and has been instrumental in training a large number of medical personnel in the field of mental health. He emphasized on ‘What is Self Awareness’ and further added that awareness is the first step in the creation process. As you grow in self awareness, you will better understand why you feel what you feel and why you behave as you behave. That understanding then gives you the opportunity and freedom to change those things you’d like to change about yourself and create the life you want. Without fully knowing who you are, self acceptance and change become impossible. Self Awareness is having a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions. Self Awareness allows you to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them in the moment. There was continuous interaction with the teachers throughout the workshop and Dr.Shetty being a versatile personality kept the atmosphere lively throughout. Thus at the end of the workshop Dr.Shetty was successful in making us believe that, “Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment.”
